Why do state schools and private schools have different holidays?
Before we outline the school term dates for Western Australia, it is worth pointing out that state schools and private schools tend to have opposing holiday dates – especially over the summer period.
The Western Australia Department Of Education determines the term dates for all state schools. In doing so their focus is on the consistency of term length. As previously alluded to, Catholic, independent and private schools are not managed or financed by state or national governments. As a result, they are not bound by the term dates they set.
Whilst the school holiday dates for Catholic, independent and private schools are generally the same as that of state schools, it is worth reiterating that some variations may occur.
