Lismore is a city in the northeastern area of New South Wales, Australia. The city is situated on the northern arm of the Richmond River. The city is geographically varied as it is situated between rainforest land and only 20 miles (32km) from the coast of the Pacific Ocean.
Record books recognise the settlement as early as 1843. The name is a borrowing from the Scottish island; also called Lismore. The settlement was recognised as a village in 1856; becoming a city in 1946. Lismore (and the surrounding area, including Broadwater) is commonly known as a farm processing centre; dealing mostly with butter, bacon, and sugar. Lismore also has a light industrial trade with several sawmill sites.
Lismore is also home to the main campus of the Southern Cross University, which opened in 1994. This resulted in the city curating various festivals celebrating the arts and music. In addition, the Richmond River Historical Society Museum showcases the history of the local area.

Richmond River
The Richmond River is the principal river in the North Coast district, New South Wales, Australia, rising on Mt. Lindesay, in the McPherson Range. The body of water flows southeast through Casino and Coraki, at which juncture it connects with the Wilson River.
The river enters the Pacific Ocean at Ballina, 360 mi (580 km) north of Sydney. With a total length of 163 mi, it is navigable as far upstream as Casino. In 1828, Henry Rous, a British naval officer became the first European explorer to navigate the river.
